Scarborough's £26 Million coastal protection and cliff stabilisation works started in April 2002
Site offices been erected on Marine Drive .A sign that the contractors for the major coastal protection work for Scarborough, is about to begin
Rock armour arrives from Norway. It takes 11 days for the barge, the (Mebau )to leave for Norway to pick up its load and return to Scarborough
Removing sandstone rocks from the base of the Marine Drive ready for the rock armour
Preparing for the concrete base which will form an anchor for the rock armour
Waiting for the tide to go down, before starting work
Work stops at high tide for these machines, but starts again as soon as the tide is low enough ,even in the middle of the night.
The North Bay before work really gets under way The area in the middle of the picture will be where most of the rock armour will be stored.
As the tide gets low enough work starts transferring the large rocks to where they are wanted, Some of the rocks can weigh up to 5 tons
